It All Turned Around

I was reading to pass out and realized I would have left you all hanging thinking things were still not going well at the hospital. But actually, things turned around this afternoon and Stephen is now really comfortable and much less agitated than earlier today. Around 3:30 PM this afternoon, we woke up, asked for Daddy and then asked for ice. Just like that. So we got him some ice chips and he perked up like nothing had happened just a few hours earlier. It just happened to be that all the grandparent's were in the room and he called them each by their name, said elmo and choo choo and proceeded to eat a whole bunch of ice chips. We later found out from the surgeons that the ice chips were a no no because he hasn't really had a bowel movement yet, but his throat, mouth and lips were so dry and the water just drains out his g-tube anyway (plus the nurse gave us the go ahead),plus he loved it, so we let him eat them.

And after we got back from dinner, he asked me to pick him up, so I got a chance to sit and hold him too for awhile. He ate some more ice and then we called the grandparents so he could say "hi" and "night night." His little raspy voice is just so darn cute, I just can't get enough of hearing him talk!

Oh and the surgeons came and removed the dressing from his incision. It's a little scary for those with a weak stomach, so I'm giving fair warning. I couldn't help myself, I had to count the staples; 31 in all. But surprisingly, he doesn't seem to bother it and doesn't seem to be in any pain. But he is still getting some pain meds and he got some IV Tylenol tonight so hopefully he'll have a very sleepy, uneventful night.

And just so you know, the second picture is Stephen actually saying "cheese!" as I took the picture! It was so freaking adorable! The nurses went nuts!

  1. Hi Lindsey,
Your Mom phoned this evening to tell us how great Stephen did today. It was a relief to hear that thing turned around. I was hoping you would post pictures on the blog so instead of heading to bed, I stayed up and checked my e-mail and did some net surfing. My eyes were getting tired so I thought I'd check the blog one more time before heading off to bed and WOW there was our Superman looking terrific!!!! Now I will have a great report to tell everyone at church tomorrow. Stephen looks wonderful and Mommy and Daddy look much relieved. May we be the first to wish the WORLD'S BEST MOMMY a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!
    Lots of Love,
    Aunt LuAnn & Uncle Dick
